About the project
The subject of the project is the inadequacy of career planning for disadvantaged upper secondary school students between the ages of 15-18. Our participants are from Turkey, Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, and Poland.
Schools, as a part of career planning process, play a key role in the efficient evaluation of human resources. In particular, investments in disadvantaged students' career education return to high student success, employment and sustainable growth. For this reason, we have implemented surveys that determine the level of our students' career planning awareness and the adequacy of our activities. 78% of the students who participate in our survey state that their knowledge about career planning is very little and nothing at all. While 38% state that they have not decided which profession they will do in the future, only 12% state that the school has been the most responsible of affecting them while choosing a profession. We have also faced the fact that only 30% of our students are satisfied with their in-school career planning activities. In career planning, 61% are able to access databases of departments and occupations through effective media tools , while the remaining 39% say they still use information technology limitedly. When we evaluate these results, we have found that our students who participate in our survey are unfamiliar even to the concept of career planning, and hesitant to choose the profession they think they want to do. The reason why our students think their school career orientation inadequate is a consequence of the fact that we need to assume more responsibility for our students, especially the low socio-economic profile students. Career planning level questionnaire that we carried out at our school, feedback from graduates, indecisiveness in the selection of school department, lack of expected success in university exam results, have led us to identify low career optimism in our students. By providing our students with compliance with today's information societies in line with the EU 2020 strategies, the quality workforce which is needed for economic development both within the country and at the level of Europe will be able to provided with effective career guidance at upper secondary school level. Our students will have the opportunity to develop and renew their knowledge and skills about not only local, regional, national labour market but also the European labour market according to the needs of global world in line with the EU 2020 Strategies. We have no doubt that our career planning activities with our European partners will add a precious career map to the all of our students’ future.
